Is it me or are these stupid digital fuel "read-outs" REALLY unreliable? I can fill the car up and in less than 20 miles later the reading has gone down to almost half a tank then when i turn off the car then back on its back up to almost full again? also when it gets to around a quarter of a tank the last bit just goes in seconds it seems and my fuel light is on? I have NO trust in the stupid thing... is it back to the dealer or are others the same?
Please advise

Yup, they're appalling. Very conservative too. Mine showed empty, with the fuel light on, yet still had 5 litres left in the tank even after I'd been drivign with the light on for around 25 miles..... (That's a nerve-wracking experience I have no desire to repeat!
)
Just reset your trip counter each time you fill up and start thinking about a top up whenever it gets to 200-250 miles, depending on how you're driving and how much VTEC-ing youve been doing.....

Mine is bad, last 4 bars go down one at a time after 10miles or less. Find that if you park the car on a hill or if the car is leaning to the right (drivers seat lower than the passengers) then the car shows allot less than what you really have. Like LL said fill up after every 200 and you'll have no problems

I hear people talk about faulty fuel sender devices? Could it be anything to do with this?
I have this problem on my car, it shows more than what is in there. Worse is when the petrol light comes on but there are still bars left on the counter? Your not sure which to believe. If its anything to go by I did roughly 15miles with the empty light on and didnt experience any problems, this was hard driving with the warning light on

The warning light can come on with up to 4 bars on the guage.
I wouldn't worry too much - just make sure you fill up every 200 to 250 miles. Some people have travelled quite long distances with the fuel light on.

I've found something out. They work out how much fuel you have left based on your consumption. For example. Going round Anglesey on Friday i used A lot of fuel. Stuck a tenner in a mile down the road and started the journey back to Llandudno - light on and no bars. As i travelled further, the light went off and bars up to 3 or 4.
Thats kinda cool
