Are you sure that's really advisable taking off the air box cover?
Although if you like the noise, save up for an induction kit

Hello and welcome Craig, not the best start weather wise to your first day of s2000 ownership! Don't worry too much about the scaremongering on here! Just try not to vtec in the corners and you'll be fine.. Regarding the noise when the airbox lid is off, that's normal, sounds a bit like a vacuum cleaner when at idle. If you can find a quiet road on the south coast, go and have a play! The A272 is pretty good if you time it right. The closest airfields to you for track drives are castle combe, keevil, hullavington, thruxton -worth considering.Congrats on your purchase.

You know what Craig, the wife actually drove the purchase of the S2K.
It was never on my list - I was looking at M3s and Liners.
I'm glad she suggested it though.
I felt EXACTLY the same way about the power of the car in the early days.
Kept thinking how slow it felt, and how sedate.
Roof off in the sun was awesome but felt it was lacking in performance.
The relative lack of torque gives this impression at first, its something of an illusion.
When you gain confidence in the chassis, which might take several months, the penny will drop.
You have about 150bhp before you come onto 'high cam' (vtec) but it feels significanly less that other cars due to lack of torque.
You really have to make full use of the rev range and will find youself using the gearbox more as a result.
Again, the mph readout tells a different story to the 'arse dyno' and side by side with other cars you will be surprised how quickly you're actually making progress.
The handling dept. is where it's all at though.
There is very little as rewarding or as quick in skilled hands on the road.
True, there are safer and easier cars, but as you know from modding - it's your ride, your enjoyment that matters.
Steve.
