Okay being doing my own bit of research; each time I have let another driver out/through I have registered if they showed gratitude for this and what gender they are. The results are interesting, male drivers will acknowledge my courtesy to them more than females. In fact only half of the female drivers show any sign of gratitude. The only reason I can see is because I am male. Why?

Just be thankful they don't drive straight into you, whilst applying their mascara

When I am on my bike I find that women are easily the most inconsiderate drivers on the road. They are less likely to let me past than male drivers and sit in lane 3 for no reason whatsoever .......... they also do such stupid things.

I also notice more women on their mobile phones while driving

Well I'm not a lady the last time I looked (cue the nurby comments ) but I also agree. Lee, as a matter of interest did you notice a correlation between those that didn't acknowledge you and the rating in the looks dept.?

I have noticed that the better looking ones rarely hold a hand up. Is that because they think it could be construed as a 'come-on' How ridiculous is that??

In the defence of women, one thing they definitely don't do that blokes seem to do much more is tailgate (my pet hate!)

I've noticed this too. My theory is that most of them aren't aware enough to know that you've let them out.

I have to say, I haven't really noticed if its usually guys or girls. I find it irrirating when I let people out and they don't thank you, they just take it as their due. Personally I always either hold my hand up, or if its dark I'll flash my lights as a thank you.

What part of the country you're in seems to make a difference too. When driving in Gloucestershire it was damn rare to get a thankyou, whilst in other others its unusual not to get a thankyou.

I suppose I do view a 'typical' woman driver as a pretty crap driver. I usually get the comment 'you don't drive like a girl' and I take that as a compliment.

Whats worse - a woman in a Volvo or in a BMW?

A woman I used to work with ages ago told me she got a Volvo as she felt scared on the roads and Volvo's are safe cars. She also told me she can't reverse and she always parks on the furthest side of the car park as she has difficulty in getting the car into one parking spot. Needless to say, I gave her a wide berth on the roads.

I'm much more afraid of old people to be honest. They don't believe in indicators or staying in lane but prefer a gentle wander about the road. Lethal
