It's the same for Brits going the other way, No driving history or credit history etc. usually means you get shafted.

You might be able to get some discount if you can prove your driving history, don't you guys get a good driver discount in the US?? Some companies may take this into account.

Couldn't you see if your US policy covers you for international useage?

They are likely to be more sympathetic to the armed forces than anyone over here I'm afraid.....

Unfortunately you're about as bad a risk as you can get for an insurance company, convictions aside.

24 yrs
Group 20 car
LHD car

Even those of us here with a UK licence would struggle to get insurance with those statistics

You're colleagues must be the best bet for advice, as Beardie says.

Evan, this seems to be a fairly active board that may help with your quest. You may get more info there.

If Fairford ever has days closed to air traffic, let me know and we'll have a race down the main runway

i got 2100 pounds for being 25, though that doesnt help me until next year.. ill keep trying but jesus i wouldnt of brought the car if i knew it would be that hard

no offense to england but they make it damn hard to do much being from the states, figured the military guys would get a break. Though i dont know what its like for people coming from the here to the us
though we dont do the no claims thing becuase technially id have no claims since i was 16...
but they dont see it like that

even cell phones today, orange wanted a 150pound deposit on both phones, granted i get it back but ive never had to deal with that for a year long contract

they said its because ive only been here a month, so i told them to forget my buisness
Welcome to the UK, we get ripped off for everything here, especially insurance. Just wait until you start filling it with petrol....

with Beardie, try and find an American company that will insure your car while you're over here, not sure on the legalities of this but it's worth looking into.
