Have a look here. Mine popped its clogs when the car had just turned 49,000 miles. £300 dealer bill altogether

Are you saying you had misfire codes from the O2 sensor then, or just a CEL light? I would have thought if if was the O2 sensor, that would throw its own fault code?

In response:

davemac2 - Hopefully it isn't the injectors, but only time & trialling of the other parts like the coils 1st will determine that, if it is I'll give you a shout for a "how to" on how to replace them.

Richmc - At this stage, I'm going to trial Mr-pitts coils rather than pay for an auto electrician to test mine as I think that makes more sense.

Thanks for the link to the CEL reader

S2kTony & Simonix - I like simonix was under the impression that if the O2 sensor failed it would give a specific code, rather than causing a misfire code?

You are quite right there It won't give misfire code for an O2 sensor fail.

And deffo try Mr pitts coil packs first I was just letting davemac2 know they are no so simple to test. Any Krypton tester will use a scope to look at the health of each spark and will be able to see if the pack is breaking down.

Yeah will do.

Would I be right in thinking the same would apply for the MAP sensor?

Check injector leads and connections a bit of electrical cleaner can help.

I know it's not an S2000 but I've had a similar recent experience with my other car ( it has individual coil packs and NGK PZFR5D-11 platinum plugs, so similar but not identical)

I had intermittent misfire codes on (mainly but not exclusively) two out of six of the pots (Nos 2 + 5). I replaced the plugs, swapped coil packs, etc, etc until I got to replacing the coil packs - this seemed to solve the problem but the misfire came back nice and solid on cylinder 6 a few weeks later after a long 130 mile drive to Somerset and sitting overnight.

Drove me nuts until I got it to the garage. It turned out to be as simple as a cracked ceramic insulator on one of the plugs. I'd totally missed it as I was focusing on checking the electrodes and gap + swapping coil packs over, thinking it might be injectors/loom/ecu/earthing points.

According to my mechanic dodgy coil packs can put extra stress through the spark plugs and weaken them.

So what I'm trying to say in a rather long-winded way :-) is it might be worth a good visual inspection of the plugs even though you have replaced them already.

Misfire cylinder numbers aren't reliable due to the limited sensors which the ECU has to determine a misfire.

I'd be trying coil packs first.

Injector cleaner doesn't work IMO. So getting them properly cleaned or replaced would be the next step.

Hitting the MAP sensor doesn't work either IMO.

S2konroids - when I swap over the coil packs I'll make sure everything is clean; can I use a little WD40 or does it have to be a specific cleaner?

BenRNBP - unfortunately I had the problem before & after the plugs were replaced on & off for about a month now; replacing the plugs was the 1st move, either way I'll give them a check over when I do the coilpack swaps.

MB - Coilpacks getting swapped next week so hopefully that'll sort it, if not then replacing the injectors will be next like you say; so far I've just been trying to tick off the easier / cheaper jobs 1st.

The MAP sensor got a thud rather than a whack, a bit too much mechanical sympathy for a whack

Dan_bourne - I haven't even thought of checking the earths & have absolutely no idea how to go about it either? Any tips?
