Comprehensive UK tyre guide for the S2K

It's all subjective of course, but the standard MZs are great tyres. They have been around for quite a while though, and everybody seems to be saying positive things about the new AD08s. I'm not sure if Bridgestone have been coming up with anything new, or when they have they don't sell them here (RE01Rs, RE011s etc.).
Often people who have chosen something other than MZs say it's because "they're much better in the wet", which is not something I understand.
BTW I still have my RE050MZs on 40psi from North Weald last week. They feel great, and slide everywhere, which is quite enjoyable.

seems they don't want to sell to the UK, maybe they won;t meet the new noise polution and CO2 law being brought in in 2011

Front:
TYRES FITTED: Continential Sport 2
WHEEL SIZE: 16
TYRE SIZES: 205/55/16
OPINION: excellent all round tyre comparible to RE050's (not noticably better/worse)
Rear:
TYRES FITTED: Bridgestone ER300
WHEEL SIZE:
TYRE SIZES: 225/55/16
OPINION: sidewall is a touch soft giving the car a little bit too much lean. grip levels are good and again, not noticably better/worse than RE050's.
i'd use both tyres again, but would like a stiffer sidewall next time down to both personal preference and recommendation from chris@CG.

TYRES FITTED: R888
WHEEL SIZE: Rota 17"
TYRE SIZE: OEM 17" fit
When you have to have more dry grip than anyone else, go and get these.
When you have warmed them up, you can't help but giggle on how much speed you can carry and how late you can brake.
Infact, someone I know ( ) purposely had to change the geometry to a minimum rear toe in order to get the car tail happy again.
And the sidewall - very stiff. That person I know again, they had a puncture at 135 leptons and the tyre stayed completely intact despite being under a hard braking (135 - 20) session.

i do love the R888, it does seem to defy most laws of physics.
i'm very tempted to try the contisport contact 3's all round, anyone know if they have a stiff side wall.
my other options at the moment are the
bridgestone re050's or the goodyear f1 asymmetrics

also the 2010 autocar RWD tyre test.

17" wheels and FK452
Now on my second set of rears, the last set did about 8,000 and they've been fine, fronts are heading towards 12,00 miles and still 4mm left. What i'd call a good all round road tyre with good grip, good feedback and a good price too.

anyone run them through the winter? does the Grip drop off when tread gets down half way?
does anyone hate them with a passion.
i know they aren't the best track tyre as they get very greasey after a few laps but for every day use are they as good as people say.

They're a summer tyre, i ran them through the winter last year, got them fitted new just around November. I have tried them in heavy rain, absolutely no issue, also ok in late autumn and early spring and fine during the winter as long as it's not icy or snowing.
I wouldn't reccomend them in proper snow. Driven carefully you can get moving but it's not safe.
To that end, i've got 16" wheels this year that will be getting proper winter rubber put on them.
As an every day road tyre that you're not screwing the last ounce of grip from, they're perfectly fit for purpose.
