Thumbs up Coilover Spring Rates?

Ok. After searching high and low im still stumped lol.

Im looking to purchase BC Raing coilovers after the sucess we had with them on 2 other cars.

Now on speaking to the retailer the car comes with spring rates of 10 front and 12 rear.

Being a 50/50 weighted car, would it not be better having the spring rates the same?

I was looking at getting 10 front , 10 rear to create a balanced effect, hopefully getting rid of some of the snap-oversteer.

Then i continued thinking. What if i was to put 12 on the front and 10 on the rear?

Cheers guys

I have these coil overs and you definitely want the 12kg in front or 10/10 F/R. Mine came 10F, 12R but I simply changed them around as directed by the vendor when I told them I wanted the 12kg in front.

So far so good for me. You have to up the front damper setting quite a bit (3 from hardest for me) to keep the springs at bay at speed, but it all works well together.

I have stiffer rears than fronts because as the rears with the same spring rate were hitting the bump stops every time I went over a bump. Now no problems at all with stiffer springs at the back and certainly no snap oversteer issues.

Amazing one can spend all that money on coilovers only to find they were not designed correctly for the application.

German quality KW for me... even right out of the box, no such issues.
I have 515lb front and rear too.

IMHO those rates are way too stiff for UK roads!

Are you talking about the Nitrons, Steve? If so, the purchaser specifies the spring rates of their choice I'm sure PJL told me that his Bilsteins were supplied with front springs that were stiffer than the rears, which puzzled me. Mind you, the OEM spring rates have repeatedly changed over time (look for my Nitron thread).

BTW mine are 350lb allround on the Nitrons and the OEM 06 springs are 280LB allround

Yes, fair enough comment sir.

I would have hoped the manufacturer had done enough R&D to know what definately wouldn't work though.

It was just a small jibe, as the poster has on more than one occasion taunted me about the superiority of this product over the cheaper and capable KWs
