Thumbs up Clutch wear ...

Never been 100% confident about the state of my clutch since getting the car - my earlier posts on getting off the line confirm this - and just wanted a recap on the tell tale signs of a worn clutch.

Obviously I can spot a slipping clutch (mine's not doing this yet) and I've seen posts about clutch buzz in third or at particular revs (mine has done this a bit, but not to the extent that I'd say it sounds like a fault). I've also read posts about the clutch pedal getting heavier with wear but as this is a relative state and I can't recall the feel of the clutch on other cars I've test driven, it doesn't really help. Wouldn't describe my clutch as heavy though.

Given that I may have a problem (and possible future warranty claim), would someone be kind enough to list the signs of actual or pending clutch wear?

Ta, Shisky

Is there nobody out there who can help with this?

I'm tempted to ask the dealer at the upcoming 27k service to take a look at it, but if it's worn (which they may put down to normal wear and tear), such an inspection may compromise any subsequent warranty claim.

Question therefore is ... is there any way, aside from a physical inspection, to gauge the state of the car's clutch?

Pretty much the usual you have allready refered to.

Put it in top gear and floor it, if the revs rise but the speed dont then its slipping/going.

It gets harder to change gears or there's crunching. (this could also be the synco-mesh though)

Theres more travel before the bite on the pedal.

A strong burning smell when you floor it.

Think thats about it, but then its been a long time since did anything like this.

By the way shiskine
