I decided to sand down the clutch slave cylinder. Everything went well until I re-fitted the slave cylinder which did not engage with the release fork. A lot of fluid pissed out of the slave cylinder. I topped up the fluid but the pedal is not firm.

This is why I should pay people to work on my car. Any ideas/guidance would be greatly appreciated

you may need to bleed the system

Air in the system most likely.

Bleed the system mate and make sure the ball of the slave cylinder is seated properly. 2 people would make the job easier

The pedal goes to the floor- I have pumped it and no joy?

To bleed the clutch you need to put a clear tube on the bleed nipple then open the nipple while someone presses the clutch in; close the nipple when no more air/bubbles come through. Similar to bleeding brakes.

Have you managed to push the piston out of the cylinder?

You need to get the piston back in, make sure the ball in engaged and then bleed.

Rich I removed the piston from the slave, sanded the domed head and refitted into the slave. Unfortunately, I did not fit and head of the slave against the release fork so a load of fluid came out of the slave.

I've tried refitting the slave, there is very little room between the head of piston and the release fork.

Is this normal as I'm struggling to get the slave back on unless the boot that covers the release fork is left off the car.
