Just picked up my car from the dealer and got the verdict, its the....
...clutch
Thank god its a lease car or I would be screwed trying to pay for it! Its booked in next Tuesday. Strangely it actually felt worse when I drove home... the clutch has got about 2 inches of travel before anything happens.
A week of taking it easy, but at least the lucky git who gets my car in April with have re-assurance that it won't need a new one!

I wouldn't say that I have been gentle with the clutch, but I have not been overly aggressive with it either, I am very suprised.
What was the clutch change in the 04?
