Default Clutch/gearbox issues

Hi all,

Having some difficulty with my MY99 clutch/gearbox in that it is just about refusing to drop into gear, particularly at a standstill and especially into reverse.

The car had a new OEM clutch fitted by TGM about 3 months ago and all was fine until very recently (and suddenly - one morning it just decided to be difficult).

The only way to get it into gear is basically brute force, so I'm trying not to drive it pending sorting it out. When you do get it into gear, at a standstill, there is a slight roll forward, which makes me think that the problem maybe that the clutch isn't disengaging properly.

Any ideas? I must admit to not having even popped the bonnet yet to check the clutch fluid levels - couldn't be as simple as that could it (I know, I know, go and look...)

Cheers,

jm

Sounds very much fluid related, change the fluid and bleed the system first,

Yep. If it's like mine a bleed will fix it, for about 3 or 4 months and then it'll start to go again. Done mine twice now; next time really should do it properly.

Ok - well that's a lot better than a new gearbox at least!

Presumably a slave master is something worth buying a new one of, or is it worth saving a few beer tokens and getting one from a scrapper?

If you need a slave I've got a low mileage one you can have for about £50.

Apparently Master Cylinder is gone. £171 for the part and about £130 in labour including investigative work today. Hardly great but could have been much worse I suppose.

Drive to the garage this morning was fun! To reverse I had to stop the engine, drop it into reverse, release brakes and then hit the starter button, ready to jump on the brakes again! Slow speeds here mean than sticking it in second all the way wasn't too horrendous!

Thanks for the guidance all.
