Thumbs up Clutch Buzz questions

Hi all,

I've tried searching for this but can't find anything specific.

My car has the famous clutch buzz, it's been there a while, but it's getting progressively worse and more and more irritating. It's due for the 54k service and so I figured I'd get this sorted out at the same time. I believe it's still the original clutch but the car is no longer under warranty (2001).

Now the question, I can't find out exactly what it is that you should change to stop the buzz. Do you just change the whole clutch, or just the pressure plate or the friction plate or what? The reason I ask is that all of the individual parts are available seperately (ie from hardtopguy) and I don't really want to change parts that don't need it or that don't wear. I was planning on putting a lightened flywheel in at the same time, and probably the release bearing as a preventative measure while it's all in bits.

So any recommendations/suggestions as to a definitive list of what should be changed and what doesn't need it?

Also should I just go OEM for the clutch (car hasn't had any other mods) or is there a better/cheaper alternative?

Ta in advance.

Ta for that, I'm ooop north though in darkest cheshire...

I'm probably going to go to ABP motorsport near Crewe to get it fitted. I've had a good experience of them before and a bad one of my local dealer...

Anyone else got a view??

Bloody hell i wouldnt get a dealer to put a clutch on!! try a few quotes from your local garage first and source the kit yourself, you will save a small fortune.

PS stick with the OEM clutch, its not worth skimping on cheap rubbish here

The previous owner of my car which I bought recently told me that he took the car in for the clutch buzz problem at 20k miles, and Steels of Hereford ended putting not only the clutch but a new gearbox under warranty too. So my car has now done 25K miles, but the clutch and gearbox have only done 5K I went in and asked them to confirm, and all they could confirm that the bill was a few grand but details non specific because they delete their records after 5 years and it was done in 2002....

Am I right in thinking they modified the gearboxes slightly for the 2002 model year?
