Default clicking noise at rear

there was a post on this a while ago, but I can't find it

my car has developed a rather loud clacking (I do mean clacking, louder than a click ). It happens mainly in reverse when I leave my garage (my drive goes slightly down hill, so it happens on the lip of the garage floor / driveway), it can then happen when I pull away in first, the road junction is only about 30 feet away, so I never get out of first gear, the noise will happen when I depress the clutch to slow down). It also happend when I revered a few time at the Don Palmer day recently.

Can someone remind me what the likely cause is please? I'm booking my car in for it's first service, so I want to give the dealer as much info as possible.

Thanks

f

my dealer removed my left drive-shaft and refitted with a new hub nut........all sorted under warranty

the clicking was the axle splines

funny how this seems to be happening to people all of a sudden.....it did cross my mind that the left drive shaft takes more abuse.......perhaps that's the common denominator

Ah thats the thread. There is a TSB on it franky - sounds like your description - print of the thread and highlight the relevant bits for them, my dealer was well impressed

yeah thanks guys, I've printed out the TSB (what does it stand for?) and will take it to the dealer with me. The problem, in a nutshell, is dry drive shaft splines on the wheel hub. So it is worth getting them to check and re-grease both sides?

mine replaced the hub nut.............they had to order one as it wasn't something they keep in stock

they were also impressed with me wopping the tsb on the service counter...........they look after my car very well as they know it's my pride and joy.......I guess the fact that it shows by way of the fact that it's always mint when it goes in
