Default Cleaning Advice

I'm in Dubai and this place can over night put a thick layer of dust/sand on your car. I have a bloke who cleans cars at my apartment block but I'd never let him go near a S2000 in a million years. He does my other car which is a 4x4 so the paint/laquer is pretty robust and not had any problems. However, I've heard that the S2Ks paint is quite fragile.

The other option is to go to a cleaning place where they jet spray the car first with water, then shampoo, then clean with a soft cloth by hand then spray to rinse afterwards. This seems like the better option as the first spray would remove the dust/sand at the beginning hopefully removing the chances of scratching.

Will the seals on the roof deal with a high pressure spray?

There's a red pre-02 S2K in my apartment block that has terrible swirls and I do not want mine to end up like that. The reason why I don't do it myself? To bloody hot!

Any suggestions would be gratefully welcomed.

I don't trust anyone else to wash mine.

Having said that I've put loads of swirls on it!

The roof seals aren't great to be honest....they have a habit of leaking even in heavy rain, despite sealant.

Up to you at the end of the day I guess.....is there nowhere indoors that you could do it?

Unfortunately not. My apartment block has part covered parking but I have no access to a hose pipe etc... Getting warm water would require me going up and down 2 floors.

I might see if I can find a upmarket place that can look after it for me. Just expensive, that's all.

I jetwash my car occassionally, it's fine unless you point the jet directly at the seal, and don't get too close (the one I use is very low powered) so just mention it to them before they start. You definately need to rinse the sand off before washing or it will really scratch the paint.

Best thing for removing sand would have to be a hose pipe and not jetwash, the latter will swirl your car to hell. What you need is low pressure hose pipe flowing water off the surface to allow the sand to slowly move away from the surface. Sorry but I can't be any more help with this but it seems you only have the option of getting it done by someone else or go to a friends house to wash it.

Cheers guys.

I think I'd have to get a large bucket of water, give it a rinse and then take it to get it cleaned.

Never lived in an apartment block and it's a pain in the arse. Always been used to a house with a drive etc...
