Checking brake pad wear
Got a track day coming up so need to have the brake pads checked. How easy is this to do? How will I know if there's enough pad left? Is there anywhere that will do a free check so I know? If it's an easy half hour job, I'll do it myself (have done this before a few times on other cars) or will I need 'special' tools etc.? BTW - pads are the originals and have covered 21,500 miles.

Drac, my front pads were changed at 22,000 miles or so, by which time they were almost down to the metal. They'd done an Academy Day and a track day during that time. That should give you some guide as to how much life yours have got left in them.

CC - Do you have to take the wheel off to check?
MT - How much were the new pads? Did you fit them yourself?
Anyone know how easy it is to fit new pads? It's one of those things that can be so easy to do I'm not keen on spending loads of labour charge for someone to do what is likely to be a poorer job!
