That adaptor seems pricey

Search on here, I think autoleads is the common one and pretty cheap

The Halford's one is the Autoleads one re-packaged for Halfords.

Re the Pioneer MVH-390BT, I have this in one of my cars and it's pretty basic, but works. In the S2000, I've it's older/bigger brother the MVH-560BT... works fine with the Autolead's stuff.

Does a harness like this retain the dash controls for the stereo?

Not quite relevant, but I recently bought a conversion harness for an old freelander to get rid of the old tape deck, and it was about £4 from ebay and works fine, but the steering wheel controls don't work.

Yeah the harness will allow the controls on the dash to still work.

I have a Pioneer DEH-X8700BS unit. I use the Modifry adaptor for the steering wheel controls. Works good.

I still recommend the Modifry unit. Retains all stock steering wheel controls, but also gives you 4 more button functions using different button combos and even has vehicle speed based volume if you wish to use that (aka volume increases/decreases with speed). They also have an aftermarket HU harness adaptor that includes the plug for the steering wheel adaptor. For $100 you can get both. More than the adaptor harness mentioned above, but more functionality as well.

I have a modifry with all the bells and whistles, and whilst it's great, it's not worth paying over 4x as much for IMHO.
