Yes, I followed the instructions from your website to the letter!
It was the removal and of the christmas tree plugs and subsequent fitting of the built-in plugs through the carpet and into the newly vacant holes that caused all of my injuries (and tears of frustration). By the time I got as far as trying to tuck the cover under the glove box at the rear and the stereo mounting at the front I'd nearly lost the will to live and when I found that I needed to trim the leather to fully locate the centre console clips I gave up. That was a month ago and I still haven't plucked up the courage to go back and finish the job properly!
So I'm obviously not most people.
GSi told me that fitting the cover was a doddle as it just tucked in under the carpet - have you changed the design since he bought his?

I got mine from www.ricks2k.com - from what you've said it sounds like a different design to the Muz one.

The factory plugs will pop out without too much effort if you insert a screwdriver tip under the cap of the plug and twist. Then it's just a matter of ensuring the cover is fully fitted before replacing the console trim.
If I could be there I'd do it in a twist for you. Perhaps there is another owner nearby who might be willing to help out?

with my cover that came from Ricks there was no need to remove anything other than the plastic bit on top of the console... (and to pull the radio door out slightly)

Ooh, what a kerfuffle!
I mustard mit, that and the import price has put me off getting one.
If however I had the red carpet, I'd get one (probably black) yesterday.
Chance to do my "safety lock" on the headlight washer button at the same time!

Slightly Off Topic but that has never stopped me before...
On my aging beemer with rustic suspension, the headlights get sprayed when you use the wiper wash... but only under the following conditions.
1) only when the lights are switched on
2) only when you wash the screen for an extended period (a quick squirt just does the screen)
3) when they do squirt, they do one squirt, wait a second and do another. I guess this was calculated to remove 17.8% more dirt than one continuous squirt.
Back on topic, the console is covered.
