Default CEL - Misfire Detected

Hi there,

After a fast motorway run a few weeks ago a CEL popped up on the dash. Not sure what was up and not a spanner man I booked the car into Bristol Honda for check up (they quoted me £84.60 just to carry out a diagnostics check!). As I have AA Home Start I thought I would also ask them to come out. Man in yellow arrived and plugged in a laptop with latest diagnostics software and after a few attempts he pulled down the following three codes:

P301 cylinder 1 misfire detected
P303 cylinder 3 misfire detected
P304 cylinder 4 misfire detected

Opened bonnet and after checking all connections / hoses and oil level he reset the CEL and started engine - no CEL. He suggested I take the car for a 20 min run making sure I went into VTEC a few times. Arrived home and still no CEL, so AA man left and I cancelled my appointment with Honda dealership. All fine for about two weeks, then yesterday morning in crawling rush hour traffic CEL came on again. So me thinks, ‘bite the bullet’, book in with dealer and wait for the good news? Any other options open to me (a recommended garage - I live in Bristol?) By the way the car is a 2005 with 88,000.

Cheers

Is the car actually misfiring?

This could be your coil packs on their last legs and if you search on here you will find that you can replace all 4 of them with OEM parts from the states via Rock Auto for around £150 where as Honda UK want around £150 each

Three in one go is a bit suspect, when were the plugs last changed and valve clearances done? Could be either of those.

I had the same problem, multiple cylinder misfire. I changed out all four coil packs, erased the codes, and it didn't come back. Good luck.
