Just found this.

You may want to go back over some of my threads from around August...I had just this, albeit possibly not quite as serious. Every so often the CEL would come on. Got suggestions of 10 different causes (summarised them on one thread, and there's a link from someone to a useful US thread about it).

In my case, the local dealer:-
a) F***ed the valve clearances up (bag of spanners isn't even close...3-4 thou over in a number of cases); then
b) Told me they'd need to take the head off () to see if any of the valve seats were the problem

I then spent c.

No, but I do make a living from diagnosing faults on engines.
