Default CEL on constantly

Got the CEL come on today on my 2008 car. Used my ODB reader and this is the error:

P0420 - Powertrain
Catalyst system efficency below threshold
(Bank 1)

Did a realtime scan and this is reported:

MID:$21 TID:$a0
Catalyst Monitor Bank 1
Min: 0 Max: 512
Current 584

I have had a Berk HFC catalyst fitted for the past eight months and have had no problems since it was fitted. I also have the Tanabe Concept G exhaust.

Is this the O2 sensor on the Berk HFC?

Any advice as to what my best course of action would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

I should have said I got this when I ran the realtime test:

MID: $01 TID:$87
O2 Bank 1 Sensor 1
Test incomplete or dependant test failed

try using a o2 sensor spacer, then reset the ecu.

Thanks for replying.

The latest spec Berk HFC (which is what I have fitted) isn't supposed to need one and it has been fine from the day it was fitted. I double checked this with Berk before I purchased the cat.

Could be worth trying the spacers anyway, only £8 and could fix your issue.

Cat is sealing well and I bought a new donut gasket as well.

I'll see if I can get the car on a ramp and check all the gaskets and joint. Maybe something needs retightening.

I'll check out the spacers as well. I'm just concerned that it may move the sensor too far out of the gases, although maybe that is the point.

I just don't understand why, after eight months of flawless operation, I've now got the CEL.

The cat could be faulty, it's not uncommon for issues to occur with these HFC's to become faulty with mileage.

I've done around 1500 miles on this cat. That would be too little for it to start having issues do you think?

Have you tried clearing the CEL?
In the later model cars I think it's pretty common for this code to light up once in a while.
