The only thing you can do really is try and loosen it with it secured to something. Best thing to do would be to unclip the wiring plug from the loom, remove the cat and find a vice or something you can secure the cat in. You need to get a decent spanner on it, ideal situation would be if you could get a ring spanner over the wiring plug and then try and undo it with the spanner and hitting the spanner with a mallet. Even the specialist lambda sensor tools are no good when they are seized in because the tool isnt strong enough and springs open

One thing i will say is that if its this stuck then sods law when you remove the sensor it will strip the thread out of the cat or strip the thread off of the sensor itself rendering it useless.

If you need the car tomorrow then refit the cat and then have another go at it when you have some spares incase something goes wrong!

Spanner and hammer...works every time.
If it's really chewed, stilsons or the proper tool will work.

Thanks guys. I doubt I'm going to manage this now. I'm having to drill out the holes where the bolts were on the CAT. Id hoped they would pop out once Id ground down either side but its not happened.

Drill bits are cack and I feel like I'm banging my head on a wall here. I'd hoped to refit the CAT so as to be able to use the car but now with this situation I doubt that will happen.

Does anyone have a lambda sensor? This one will be knacked by the time I get it out.

I'm devestated, can't sort it, can't go on the run and can't use my car. Wish I'd not bothered (

When i fitted my decat 2 out of 3 nuts on the cat had to be cut off and i had an angle grinder ready for this because it always seems to happen. Once the Cat was removed i turned the cat upside down so the manifold collector was resting on the concrete floor and bashed the remaining studs out of the Cat (put some cardboard underneath to stop you marking the concrete and the cat). 10 good blows with a copper mallet and they came out no probs. Cutting them wont make it any easier because that's not what holds them tight in the cat.

They are almost a pressed fit and have little grooves in them that hold them tight into the CAT. Hope that helps!

Oh and try not to get disheartened, exhaust parts are always a bastard because of the heat and corrosion.

Thanks for you help Mark. You were right, was a dogs arse of a job. Had to nip down Kwik Fit where they put some real heat on it and they got the sensor out and knocked through the bolts that were left.

As other post, just need to sort the CEL now.
