Default Castrol 10w-60

As per the topic - I remember having a conversation with Si a while ago re the 10w-60 oil that he's helped make. Just wondering if anyone has used it in the S2k yet and if so, did it stop the older model oil burning issue?

Cheers!

No idea but I'll be watching this as my car is a bit thirsty on the oil. I've always run mine on fully synthetic 5w30 or 5w40 oil. I know when the car is new they put semi in it so I'm not sure how a semi would effect the car long term but I would have thought that an oil with an SAE60 is way too high at 70% thicker than an SAE40 at 100C. I can see some of the logic in your thought though with the fact it's likely that higher engine temps in older cars at the crank would benefit but I would be concerned about the longevity of the oil as once the pour point additives/polymers wear off as I would think it could then be potentially damaging for the engine at low operating temperatures.

I'm by no means an expert though so definitely an interesting topic to follow!

As my engine is also a dual fuel, I shall be watching this thread with interest too!

That is used in Aston Martins and M series BMW's
(and the Astons burn a fair bit of it when driven hard )

I wouldn't use an oil with 60 grade. The oil pipes in the F20C are quite narrow so on start-up this grade oil (thicker) will take a bit longer to circulate around the engine especially in your climate. This will wear some parts in long term. At least this is my opinion. I have a turbo S2000 and i use 10W-40 and the 60 grade would have been more helpful with the increased oil temperatures but i went for 40grade for the reason above

It would probably be better for consumption but not for power and longevity of the motor.

If a car is using oil, there is a reason for it.

My engine only started to use oil when it was past 3000 miles old, up till then, it didn't use any.

I don't think that 10-60 would damage an F20C per se, but i'm pretty sure you'd lose some power. Quite how much, I couldn't say, but one of my Dad's old cars lost about 40bhp from having the wrong oil in it!

I must say it's quite horrific how oil doesn't flow when it's cold. I have watched the dry sump reservoir on the westy and when you start it up, hardly anything comes into the tank and the oil pressure is 60PSI.

Warm it glugs in nicely, despite being 15PSI (Idle obviously).

I'd look at getting a leakdown test performed on an oil muncher.
