Default Cars and badges

One thing I like about the S2000 is that there is only one incarnation so no need to have badges that differentiate between models

My question is what is the point of badges denoting engine size etc? I saw a Boxster yesterday that had no badges on at all and thought the rear end looked better for it...I think in a similar way to how I feel about the S2000 now it's debadged

Now when I saw the debadged Boxster I at first assumed that this must be a base Boxster and the owner didn't want people to know it wasn't the 'proper' version but then figured that this might no necessarily be the case

Anyway my point is this.....I feel that cars look better without badges and just the makers 'marque' front and back is preferable to being covered in badges

Anyone agree

Conspicuous consumption, Paul. Some people want the world to be able to see that they've ponied up for the top of the range version and that, by implication, they're successful individuals.

I don't much care either way, really. I wouldn't not buy a care simply because it didn't have them, but nor would i hurry to remove them if it did.

I am now a real fan of the 'clean' look.....easy to polish too!

I'd take the Honda front and rear's off if I could

My old Suzuki Cappuccino used to have a big "Cappuccino" badge across the boot lid (and thats a long word for such a small lid!) until some nobend peeled it off!...... I was really annoyed until I cleaned up the remaining glue and found no damage had been done, I then realised that the rear end looked much better without the badge and it added to the mystery of the car as very few people knew what it was. So yes I agree some cars are better without badges...... S2000 included.

P.S. At least we've got away from the days when cars had extra badges showing what "features" they had eg. ABS, Catalyst, SIPS, Cabrio, Intercooler etc...... I once saw a Cappuccino with the following badges added (as a joke I hope!)........

Cappuccino GTi 12v Turbo Intercooler Targa Cabrio Coupe!

shame we have to have side indicators.....kinda related but does anyone know absolutely for certain if removing the headlamp washers would constitute an MOT failure?

I really don't like them at all

But what would you put in their place?

As for badges, I think that one make models really are the best - a badge that just says S2000 is cool... I'd say the same for any car from MX5 to F1.

Once you get into mutli engine varieties, it's all become a bit mass market - no? I guess if I had the top of the range I'd leave the badge on as I'd want to distance myself from the de-badgers who I suspect generally have the lower model but don't want to advertise the fact.

In the US they are into car 'shaving' - there is quite a nice example of what they get up to here - gone are badges, fuel flap and door handles!!!!!!!!
