Default Carrying a hardtop home...

I need to collect a hardtop but as yet haven't got a fitting/fixing kit. Is it possible to drive one home without the kit, i.e. just resting it on top? It's about 15~20 miles away and I can easily avoid motorways.

I seem to remember someone else did the same using an abundance of bungee cords and they seemed to think it was sturdy enough to survive a short, gentle journey.

I wouldn't just rest it on though.

Drove from Birmingham to Manchester on M6 with bungee cords on and there was less noise than with my fitting kit!

I like your ghetto style

How many bungee cords are we talking about, what length, and where did you attach them too?

To be honest I only had one each side but for safety you can always opt for 2.

Ones i got were 80cm reinforced hook elastics - heavy duty. They were Halfords own brand.

You just attach one hook to the hardtop locking handle, feed it underneath the seat rail then hook back onto the hardtop locking handle again.

Just make sure the hardtop is sitting "naturally" i.e. where it would sit if you had the fitting kit in place and also make sure that the two plates on the hardtop that press down on top of the soft top when its down are on top of the soft top before you try and bungee it up. I missed that and gouged my soft top.

If there is any movement (and there was mm's with mine if that because of how tight the bungee cords were) it will be laterally. I drove mine around with the bungee cords on for about 2 weeks before fitting the kit!!!!
