Default Car Won't Start

Went to start the car today, put the key in and turned it to light up the dash and pushed the start button. All I got is the sound of a machine gun from the rear of the car??

Please help, any ideas

Thanks

I am sure the battery is not flat, as the central locking worked and the dashboard lights up. I have had it in the past when the battery was flat and couldn't get in the car with the remote.

I would second the battery being flat. I am sure this is what I got a few months back.

Try giving it a jump (not a bump)!

Yeah it will unlock and dash lights come on but they will fade and also might not be enough to kick it over... Had this many times

My car unlocked remotely and the radio worked when I have a flat battery, sounds like it needs some juice to ye olde starter going.

Are you at home, or in Nottingham?

Because if he's in Nottingham it might not be the car that sounds like a machinegun?
