If you do need a new battery, and it does sound like you will (unless a jump sorts it out that is), then HONDA dealer is probably the best place, their batteries are great for the S and don't cost much if any more than you will pay for an alternative in Halfords, you should be looking at paying about £70 I think from memory.

OP has a 2005 S so a Honda fitted alarm not a Hamilton Palmer.

Thank god someone is awake!

I would also suggest flat battery - or at least check the battery ./ leads / earth strap etc.

If you try and start it do you get the dash lights flickering and other weird stuff and a repeating click from the car but no starter motor?

I'm getting jump leads from a colleague today and will try that first but given that the car is a used one and no battery changing history so I think battery is about to say goodbye, I will get a Honda battery and change it, is there a way to swap out the old one without resetting radio code and alarm?

thanks all for contribution, appreciated.

Alarm code should be on a plastic card in your owners handbook - if you have it.

Hi all, thank you for your inputs. I finally got jump leads and managed to start up the engine but I don't think the battery will last long so I will purchase a Honda battery this weekend. Do Honda dealers normally have them in stock?

Nope, ring them up and order it, tell them you want to collect it on (whatever) day. Some dealers have a habit not ordering one until they have tested your old battery, probably in the hope you will get them to fit it.

I've done this, by using jump leads to connect the old and new whilst you fiddle with the terminals, but be VERY careful. I don't recall the alarm being affected, the Honda one doesn't need a code, but the radio will.
