If I were you I would:
a) make sure the paintwork is completely dry and clean
b) do one panel at a time
c) start by adding and removing small amounts
d) get a very good cloth, terry towel and then a better one for the final wipe.
Usually this happens on warmer days when you try to apply too much polish to the whole car, it then dries quickly and becomes very hard to remove. I always try to do one panel apply, polish and remove, then move onto the next.
If your cloth is dirty it will cause smearing.
Its got nothing to do with the type of wax/polish that you are trying to use and YOU DO NOT need to spend the amounts of money required to buy Zaino and the more expensive Zymol. I have used the Halfords Zymol, and it is very good, it just has too much residue.

I have half a tub of Zymol Japon Wax sitting in my fridge. Now I don't need it would anybody like to try it out??
Might be good for a newbie to get their hands on it so they can experience the wonders of applying the stuff by hand !!
Send me a PM with address and I'll post it
