Default In Car Video

I am wanting a in car camera and HD digital recorder and as I am a complete technical dunderhead I was wondering if any of the thousand and one techies on the forum could help me with advice or offers.

I do not have a fortune to spend but want something giving reasonable results, able to operate for at least 4 hours, will run from the car electrics, preferably has built in screeen for playback and is reasonably priced. Am I asking too much???

I looked at this for Euro trips
What sort of budget are you looking at?
I decided against HD as they are expensive for a decent one. I considered the DVDR ones but considered a sports car would challenge the damping in the mechanism. I settled on DV but never got round to buying one. I'd recommend one with a remote control so you can start and stop recording with out dangerous leaning over or stopping.

As for mounts Modifry does a few good ones at decent prices. I have the aeroscreen one and the single suction cup one.

I was planning front facing video and rear facing stills.

have a look on www.avforums.com for the latest best buys!

I would recommend the Archos AV500 Portable DV recorder series with the mini-digital camera attachment. It comes with a remote control (albeit wired in), runs easily from your power socket, can be installed underneath the sun visor for very cool in-car stuff or hand held if your passenger is a bit whizzy. Plus the Archos is a great MP3/MPG player with memory capability from 30 gb to 200 gb IIRC. Not cheap but a very good set-up and truly multi-purpose. And it works very well on bumpy roads and at the Ring. ahem.

HTH

This is apparently a good deal on a good camcorder!

Very true, need to calm down a bit now, spending a bob or two on the S so... I may invest in a new camcorder this year so will be good to see some of the results. My current 4 year old Handycam has seen better days tbh.
