It's all about what date of first registration appears on the V5C - my S was imported in 07, but was declared registered in 99 - simples.

If the car was first registered in the UK in 2007 then this is what they've based your road tax on; current taxation law at the time of first registration in the country.

The exception to this rule with imports is if the vehicle is over 10yrs old on the date of first registration in the UK. If it is then it is taxed based upon its year of manufacture or year of first registration if you can provide proof.
My car is a uk car and I have a full service history on paper from 2002.
I'm hoping I can prove them Dvla boys wrong.
I hate paying to much tax.

It seems the OP should be paying £475, based on the 2007 UK registration date.

The wierd thing is he says the V5 says registered in 2000, but UK registered in 2007. I looked at my V5, and it has both fields but they both say the same date in 2002. So what does the first registered field refer to - registered somewhere else? Maybe it's an EU thing?

The other thing is my V5 doesn't have a C02 figure, which perhaps is why I get away with the older rate.

"Making it up" sounds about right.
Lucky you :-)

If it a UK car it should be the lower tax rate. You need to find some service records, better still if you can confirm with Honda it is a UK car - perhaps get them to provide it in writing that it was originally sold in UK and send to DVLA.

If its been abroad though and registered there and then brought back into the UK where it was re-registered in 2007 then I doubt it'll make any difference.

For those unsure on tax, the change in VED from the £280 to £400+ figure was 1st April 2007 in line with the new registrations. Jeff is your car registered on a 2007 56 plate or a 2007 07? If its an 07 it's definitely wrong!
