Just off to get my car tax (bit late, expired end of June) and I'm just wondering whether to get 12 months or just 6 months then 12 months at the beginning of Jan? 12 months currently comes in at

I'd do 12 if you're planning on keeping the car. The price difference on mine was quite noticeable.

Not really an issue is it?
If you sell it, or SORN it than cash the disc back in.
So, why bother paying more for less?

Is it not worth buying 6 months 'til December then SORN it for a couple of months then get 12 months before the big hike in car tax next April...Or have I got it all wrong, As usual

I'd go for 6 months and then add 12 in Jan. That way you'll benefit from the lower tax rate for 9 months when the tax hike hits next march. If it's not a daily driver you could declare the car SORN in Jan, claim a refund and tax it the month prior to the increase and get 11 months at the lower rate...

Thanks. Looking at the direct.gov site it seems to imply that from March this year cars registered after 01 will be paying the 'big one'?

Tax costs

Surely everyone will just SORN the month before the new rule comes in then re-tax at the old price for 12 months before the new band comes in? This is the same for everyone!!!
