Default Car Tax

Does anybody know whether there's any grace period anymore?
I can't find my insurance certificate anywhere and it's already up.
I was wondering how eager the new computer system is at issuing fines...

I completely forgot last year on the beater at one point. It was about 60 days after the due date I got a letter through begging me for money.

Has anyone done one of the on-line jobbies yet? I got the S MOT'ed on Saturday, not even an advisory on her, but I now need a tax disk - so with the new format MOT and it's unique identifying number, I wondered if anyone had done the order on line version?

I've phoned up, but it was last year. They just take your cash (via debit card only) then send it in the post.
I can't remember if they tried to validate whether I had current insurance, though...

You can do it by telephone now, they do the checking if you have insurance and MOT so you don't have to produce anything. Takes about 5 minutes

Oh balls. You mean I could have sorted this over the phone rather than dragging myself to the post office with the great unwashed this morning.

Oh well I know for next time

I did mine on line last Monday as it ran out on the 30th April .... got the disc in the post 2 days later .. very impressive!!

You bung in your details including the reference code they give you on the reminder and it does it all for you more or less .. it comes up with a message to say it's checked your insurance deets etc ... very

Really?
I didn't know that.
There is no mention of that service on my reminder.
But then again it's also got the wrong cost on it too.
I'll have a looksee on the webshite then.

Cheers. I can't do it online because I haven't got the 16 digit reference number on my reminder.
I'll try ringing them.

They're not making it easy.

Nice to see the car is in the top tax group. It's the best at everything!
