Tips? If you can get a cheap quote, get someone else to change the thermostat - it's not easy to get at. Be prepared to lose some skin. Themoswitch is trivial though.

My mate was telling me on Sunday that he had just been into Liedl (German supermarket chain for those )

They are currently selling car ramps for a whole

Ramps are for wimps.

You want one of these:

I might buy one actually - not for the S but for a couple of my old cars I'm fixing up.

I could lease it to you AB.

Why not go for a trolley jack and a set of axle stands - a bit safer than ramps IMO.

I agree.

I've known two people personally who died after being crushed under cars.......

What a dumb and completely avoidable way to lose your life.

If I get under a car now I have axle stands and also a couple of old wheels and tyre underneath with me. The wheels and tyres are good because you KNOW they can't turn over or compress.

That way, if the worst does happen, I know there will be some clearance.

Nobody thinks it's going to happen to them.

Years back I was working on the front suspension of a car from the side and it toppled forwards and pinned me against the garage wall.

No-one came to help for ages, despite my shouts.

I've often wondered why.

I agree with Gaddafi (once again )

Since my ramps don't fit under modern cars, I tend to put them under the sills once the car is on its trolley. That way, the car cannot fall.

That certainly saved me after I pulled the first X1/9 off the trolley on one occasion.

Thanks guys - looks as though I'll be jacking the car up and using jack stands once again. You're both right (Nick & Gad) about taking needless risks.

Thanks for the help guys
