Default Car keeps stalling?

I have a problem where my car keeps stalling at junctions. I know there is various idling problems common on the s2k but I have looked on the FAQ and adjusted the Throttle cable, cleaned and checked the idle control valve, butterfly and vaccum hoses and still have the problem.

I have had to resort to adjusting the throttle cable so tight that it revs at 2000rpm when the engine is hot because the speed fluctuates so much that any lower and it will just stall

Note: I have also tried "tapping" the MAP sensor.

Any other ideas? New sensor?

Good to see you have tried the FAQ

Have you noticed a drop in MPG?

Check the condition of the O ring under the MAP sensor too. Might be worth a scan for stored error codes on the ECU too?

Haha, thanks mb! Im already getting to know the forum unspoken rules!! ;-)

Yes, a drop in mpg maybe although not sure.

UF: checked and cleaned the o ring and sensor with electrical contact cleaner.

Exu fault codes show a misfire in cylinder 1 and 3, but I have checked and reset the spark plugs, coils and valve clearances the other week.

Just not sure, you think it might still be a dodgy map sensor? Or maybe an o2/lambda....

Those two sensors are always a good bet, in the reverse order. Lambda sensors are consumable items IMO.

Sounds like the throttle cable needs adjusting correctly.

I suggest to try a map sensor from a fellow S2000 member if you have one live close.

Ah yes...does sound awfully like Bandit's recent problem though

A duff MAP sensor does cause fluctuation of the idle speed. Had this problem myself when I fitted a TB with a knackered one.

Take the main large pipe off from the air filter to the throttle body and ensure that there is no crap that has built up around the bottom of the butterfly valve in the throttle body. Sometimes if you get a bit of oily gunge there, the valve doesn't shut properly and then is sticky to open meaning the engine hunts for the idle or doesn't.

Never had it on a S2k mind, but a mates car had exactly the same symptoms.

EDIT:- Bugger just read your post and you have already done this. Does sound like the MAP sensor then...
