Car just failed MOT

Perhaps I'm being anal, but I think it should fail, and not be put back.
If someone drove into one of our cars because they had a satnav stuck in the middle of their windscreen, there'd be calls for a public hanging on this forum.
Of all the laws governing our roads, the requirement for the driver to be able to see in front of them is one of my favs.
its not like there's bags of real-estate on an S2000's windscreen, so for those of us gadget junkies, lets balance our techno dick waving with a little nod to road safety eh?

As you'll see from my statement below - I comply with what I believe to be the current regulations...
With my driving position, if I look where the unit would be when it is removed 90 of what I can see is bonnet - so there is little or no obstruction to my view...
They did the re-test immediately (and because they couldn't work out how to remove it they imagined it wasn't there...) - said they had to issue a fail cert because of this new computerised system (blah, blah, blah)...
Anyway, I found this clicky and based on this the MOT station was incorrect...
They quoted (using this web page's reference 8.3.1.e) and I cannot see how the unit encroaches into the swept area A by any amount (never mind 40mm)... I may just have to go and ask them to explain.

The 700 will not sit very comfortably in either vent, it will stick out far too much and you will hit it when driving.

What a load of tosh. My PDA is mounted on a gooseneck windscreen jobbie. As corgi says, all it obscures is bonnet and internal dash.

I don't think anyone's got an issue with mounting pdas, tom-toms, the missus, or anything else on the windscreen, as long as it doesn't cause a safety issue.
corgi, totally agre with your point, they're probably referring to points d or e, as you say.
my remark was not aimed at you, rather the concept people replacing their tom toms after passing an mot.

Bonesy - I was assuming that it wasn't obscuring the view in the first place - otherwise MOT or not I personally would not have it there. I agree with what you have said, but if it was just the MOT centre being a jobsworth - then screw em!
