Well I'm not going to claim to be the strongest male about, but when I tried to turn them it was really hard. But I thought also that because just one wheel was up in the air it would add to the problem? With the handbrake off it seems to wheel ok when you push it. Since I've had the probem I've driven down to the south of France. Thats like 450 mles, I assumed that if they were seizing the discs would be f**ked by now? It is so annoying! especially being in another country and all.

Anything stuck up the exhaust pipe?
I think if the brakes were binding you would smell them and the wheels would be hot to the touch and maybe hear clicking from contraction of the metal when you stop.
Any unusual noises coming from anywhere?
When you rev the engine does it sound free revving and normal?
Does the gearbox and clutch operate as normal?
If you take your hand off the steering wheel when driving in a straight line does the car pull to one side?
Repeat when braking, does it pull to one side?
I noticed the car was juddering slightly at high speeds (80mph)
Did you try dipping the clutch to see if it stopped? If it it did, transmission/engine. If not, drive shafts/brakes etc.

Did you buy the fuel from a small garage, cos if so the petrol could have been there for ages and lost some of the octane - French love their diesel!
RE. My plugs comment - happened on my old Alfa (no comments please). Was told it was poor fuel leaving deposits on the plugs, plus moisture.

Could be anything in reality!
But there are clues to all faults and the trick is to rule them out.
Engine or transmission would be the first thing to narrow down in this case.
With both back wheels in the air, a single wheel wont spin freely, but it should turn with not much effort. If you just jack up one side and the other wheel is on the gound it will be more difficult.
Can you answer the following please:
Does the car pull away ok with just light throttle or is it both light throttle and flat out?
If it is juddering at high speeds, do you mean the engine, ie hesitating or is it mechancial juddering from the wheels / transmission?

Another thing to try is get the car rolling in a flat road and dip the clutch and see if you can feel the car decelerate more than normal. Thats how i noticed my CRX rear calipers were seized once.
