Default The car does a little shimmy

My rear tyres are on the verge of being illegal (I am amazed how crap they have been in this recent bad weather, but thats a differnet discussion)).

Anyway, I have noticed that as I go over drains and other lumps and bumps in the road (at any speed) I feel the car does a little shimmy or shake, as if it momenrtarily looses grip and goes sidways.

Does this sound normal or do I need the geometery done?

Mine does that (as did my previous) when you hit water. Feels totally different to other cars when they aquaplane.

Normal - it always feels like it's the back end letting go, but strangely always seems to stick.

It not aqua planing as it does it at slow speeds, it seems worse now that the tyres are more worn.

If it is normal what causes it?

It probably is losing grip temporarily, especially if its wet.....

You can get them to do it if you change up gear very aggressively, you can get a bit of slip through the changes

Normal if tyres are worn.
I've felt it on every car I've ever had.
Buy new tyres!

I've found it doesn't matter if the tyres and new or old, you will have the arse out in the wet, its all to do with right foot action. If its wet you will slip and slide. the thing with man hole covers, why do motor cycles avoid them, because they are lethal, I get a wiggle on them too, so I avoid them.
240 BHP and a wet road don't mix, mind you when I got a bit of side ways action drivers behind back off rather quick.

a quirk of the LSD compensating for lack of grip on one side I guess!

I think I know what you mean, its when, if your not going quick and you drive over something slippy like a big metal grate and the back end sort of stutters as it goes over it, it doesn't feel like your losing the back end but sort of as if the back end moves side to side briefly as it slips over it?

Its totally natural theres nothing wrong with the car both my RWD cars do it, I think it could be to do with the L.S.D. when one wheel experiences less grip than the other it sort of shudders.
