I used to cover my old MR2 up but like Jake said - you have to make sure they're clean.
I made that mistake and it was like someone had washed it with a brillo pad

Do they make smaller ones like the shower caps for lotus Elise’s, that cover just the roof and windows, as this would make a good compromise, by offering the roof and seals some protection, keep ice off the windows but avoid scratching most of the paint work.

Ian's cover looks like a Covercraft Weathersheild - one of the best outdoor covers made in my (and many others) opinion.
I had one for my S2000, and my NSX now lives under one.
At £60 that is a steal for someone.
As noted above, if you are going to use a car cover (and particularly an outdoor cover) your car needs to be very clean before you put the cover on if you are to avoid damaging the paint.
However, I am currently investigating an outdoor Carcoon - does anyone have any experience of these?
