Default Car Alarm Problem

I went to start the car on saturday but the fob didn't do anything, so i unlocked the door with my key and the alarm went off. Pressing the fob did nothing so i disconnected the battery and eventually the noise stopped. Recharged the battery over the weekend as a precaution (it wasn't flat) and refitted it this morning. The lights flashed a few times and all seemed well so i hit the fob unlock button and the alarm started off and no amount of pressing the fob made any difference. So, i've disconnected the battery again and have no idea what to do next. Can anyone help please? ASAP would be great ;-)

Did you try to start the car? That will often sort the problem.

Try changing the batteries in the remote, If it still does not unlock, alarm could be knackered.

I went to try your suggestion and this time i connected the battery and everything worked perfectly. It's a real PITA because there seems no sure method, just than trial and error. Which would not be so bad with heavy-duty ear defenders and no neighbours. Don't know why the fob didn't work in the first place though i do remember dropping it the day before. Perhaps that dislodged the battery contacts and i relocated them when i took the fob apart.

Anyway, many thanks for your usual quick and helpful responses.
