Default Can anyone diagnose my problem?

People of the internet,

Long time reader, first time poster! (be gentle)

I'm sincerely hopping that one of you can watch the video below and help diagnose the problem with my engine.

I've got it in to my trusty garage but none of the guys there are Honda specialists or have ever worked on a S2000 before so they're having trouble identifying the problem and are actually refusing to take the engine apart to find out. I've looked online at various youtube videos but I struggle to tell the difference between the TCT noise and rod knock and can't decide which mine sounds more like. If anyone, anywhere could help I thought you guys could. The cars done 110k miles if that helps, no oil leaks that I've ever noticed, never over heated.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Jon

(please excuse the rocker cover and general state of the engine bay, its not in its usual condition)

Without meaning to put a downer on it that sounds terminal. Knackered bearings in the bottom end. It will only get worse before it ejects a conrod out of the block.

Its too loud to be TCT. Oh and dont stand in front of the engine revving it because if it does blow your gonna end up with a lump of engine in your face.

Just out of interest when did the noise start and was it after low oil or alot of high revs and abuse?

Ahhh good old s2000 rocker covers - painted in chocolate and blood.

It is hard to hear it properly through my laptop but I am going to say that sounds like rod knock to me

Excellent. That sounds lovely and cheap to sort. New engine job I take it? I hear they tend not to do too well with rebuilds.

If anyone knows of any real garages in Aberdeen they would like to recommend I am open to suggestions! I've used the current one for the last 10 years and they've been spot on but they are a bit scarred of the S for some reason.

The car was running fine before I put it off the road for winter then the noise started a week after it came out of retirement. As soon as I noticed it I limped it home and called the garage. Wasn't driving it hard at all due to it being sat out of action for a few months. Just one of those things I'm afraid.

Thanks for all the help guys, I would have preferred if you'd said it just needed a can of red wrinkle paint from halfrauds though.

Longitudinal layout........shrapnel wounds to the side. Standing in front is relatively safe

Does sound like big ends are gonners

You could just replace the TCT to make sure. You can get a new one for less than £200 from Ballade Sports which is significantly cheaper than a new engine!

If the noise persists then you have a bigger problem and you can put the upgraded TCT in the new engine.

That doesn't sound good, it certainly isn't the normal TCT rattle.

Has anyone had any experience buying a used engine from eBay? Would an engine from any year be ok to just drop in or would it have to be an earlier one as my car is a 99?

I'm just assuming here that a rebuild is out of the question?
