damn right That said it still only takes one person driving way beyond the limit for the conditions and you have another disaster on your hands...

If you are talking about the big smash in the fog!! It was more due to people driving recklessy than speed! Speed was a contributer though! I know if they were driving slower it might have prevented the accident, but people were driving bumper to bumper in zero visibilty!!!!! Plain crazy!!! Luckily i managed to stop in time that day & avoided joining the pile up!

I would not hold your breath. I read about smart road markers maybe 8 years ago - undergoing trials so more than just a paper idea - but they have not happened yet.

Think of the cost.

Lloyd

The problem is that once an 'accident' starts it is speed and speed almost alone that dictates how much energy has to be dissipated in the crunches - and it is the crunches that hurt people. Simple physics. Of course if we could all drive sensibly like I do :halosmiley: :ifyoubelievethatyouwillbelieveanythingcountersmil ey: and as I am sure you do then we would have not problem. But until we find a way of reducing the mass of cars by 70 or more % without reducin their structural strenght then reducing speed is the way to reduceenergy and hence damage.

Here endeth my lesson. I would normally go for a burn now but I am not at home.

I narrowly missed that one and spookily the one on the M4 some years before hand as well! No I did not see them in the rear view mirror!

I do 40K miles a year in my company car and I am still surprised by the lack of thought and consideration that goes in to many peoples driving. Good example yesterday followed a white van (no surprise there then!) 25 miles up the M1 in the outside lane, would not move over for anyone or anything. Traffic cops lights blazing came up behind it, took another 5 miles before the guy realised a copper was trying to drive through him! He moved over then moved straight back out. I guess most people see driving as a chore and therefore do not put any effort in to it - unlike us!! ;D

Lets see if the cats eyes go the way of SPECS and get used sparingly or the GATSO/LASER money spinner route! I guess someone will work out a way to detect them and sell the relevant gadget they have for everything else!
