I have a reliable source who has told me that the ANPR is actually sh1t hot and can read all sorts of plate fonts etc.
TBH, that is what I want to hear - a system keeping uninsured drivers off the road and picking up stolen vehicles.
Still if I were a terrorist, i'd be driving round in a Vauxhall 'Generic' with someone else's plate attached from another Vauxhall 'Generic'. Rest assured - the plate would be bold as brass too with no irregularities.
Actually, did the copper search your car for explosives/guns/Boeing 757 manuals to backup the terrorist claims?

Is it really worth the hassle?
Terrorists and pedantic coppers or not, number plates are there to identify your vehicle and are not window to your inner soul.
Just because the rules might be out of date with what the current technology can do, why should anyone be excepted?
Just an alternative view....

Anyone who knows what an S2000 will know what my plate says. Anyone who doesn't won't give a crap anyway!
I have to say that I like personal plates less and less, especially when they attempt to spell things.
Both my wife and I have plates but they are spaced normally and act as a way of removing the date from our cars. That way I don't feel complelled to buy a new car!
