Happening a lot around where I live at the moment.
An 'incident solved', so it all goes to meeting the targets and getting the percentage up.
Interestingly, there was a car on the hard shoulder of the A1 this morning with the driver changing a wheel. Two police patrol cars (not Traffic Officer cars) attending...
... yet where I used to live, there's a 50 minute response time to calls to the Police. And it took almost two hours for Plod to arrive after my daughter and friends were set-about by dope smoking passengers in a Corsa that was passing through the area a while ago.

It's "important" that we have the correct spacing cos otherwise Big Brothrs ANPR systems can't read our plates, so I can kinda see where the Plod was coming from regarding terrorism, but I'm not too sure how many terrorist/criminal types would roll around in a bright yellow sports car with a mis-spaced private plate whilst trying to keep a low profile.........

FFS have they not got anything better to do, easy target.
I can understand them doing these t**Ts who drive round with obscure font and weird watermarking on reg plates.

It's all bollox.
I got a ticket on mine for the same around 2 months ago whilst the wife was driving it.
She got the same old blah blah about the cameras not recognising it etc.
She was quick enough to point out to the officer that the camera seemed to notice it perfectly well 2 weeks prior as I had been nabbed by a scamera.
I wish I had been there, the look on the gimps face must have been priceless.

I think its rubbish that ANPR systems cannot read the plate.
Think about the variations of plates we have in this country.
We have old prefix style and the new style then we have the more cherished one where they are not specific to the old or new reg system
Sure the ANPR has to cater for this. I dont get how the spacing factor can pose a problem as there is so many different formats of registration marks.
ie I have 5 characters in my reg, some may have more and some less. I dont see how the spacing factor can affect it. If you had a different font or trying to dodge a font to look like a letter than fair enough.
I just dont see why the spacing is THAT crucial

And you've still not changed it?
I've been driving around with it on for 5 years and in that time only stopped once so I really cannot work up the energy to be bothered about it.
If I get stopped again in the near future I may consider changing it back though.

I couldn't be bothered spacing mine. Guy in the local Shell garage managed to work it out and then asked why all S drivers have private plates.
