Banked the draft straight away, the draft cannot be stopped, the cash is guarantteed - so my bank told me.
Sounds OK in your example and I'm sure it's OK. In theory what the bank says is correct BUT some banks WILL allow the drafts to be cancelled like a normal cheque. When I sold my car I went with the chap to his bank to watch him get it drawn up (lyods tsb) I ask the cashier if it was as good as cash (the buyer was adament it was), no she replies we will allow it to be stopped!

For anyone selling a car it's advisable to always wait for the draft to clear before releasing the car.

Even better get the buyer to use CHAPS or SWIFT or cash (counted at the bank).

Getting stung with drafts is become a big problem these days!

Update on the car since purchase.

No probs with it and luckily no need to go back to the dealer.
i did receive a letter from them advising the council has shut their location down as it was not approporiate for the village to have a car forecourt.. whether this is a true reason or not i am not sure.

On the basis that i got a detailed report doen on the car (and did eventully find the dent he mentioned by the mirror - very small) and got the AA to check out the history inc me being able to take their mileage records with those from the last MOT pre the dealer bought it i was happy.

What had been said on this thread obviously made me feel cautious but i got a good car which has done a fair few miles since purchase.

Interesting as that place has been a car forecourt for years with no such problems..... (and I think before that it was a petrol station).

yeah the letter they sent included a photocopy of the letter from the council advising they would prefer to see it left derelict or returned to a petrol station. they didnt like all of the cars parked out front....

Looked quite authentic anyway.

Oh, I don't doubt its true.

Car parks, forecourts, anything vehicular is hated by the state.

Especially when there could be a block of "affordable" flats there instead!

Personally I think they should close down the run down car body shop next door to it, but there we are! And I'm sure the residents next to it would rather car sales than a 24 hour petrol station!!!

After an S2K and they seem to have about 20 in stock.

Spoke to a helpful chap there and they seemed ok, but just wondering how they turn over so much stock!

Based in Camberley and advertise on Autotrader. All UK cars.
