I'll tell you about my experience with s2000-4U. I saw this saga last night and read to page 15, there are so many posts I had to stop there!
I agree with one view that a company called 4U does put thoughts in your mind that plain old XYZtown car sales doesn't. It seems to be selling the company name and cheesiness more than plain old good car sales. But still they had a car that got my attention, the colour, the interior, the model, the year that I wanted and low miles.
What I'll tell you is factual as well as I can recall and not just an opinion, I'll let you decide what you make of it.

I rand them up on 28th November a Monday, chatted to a salesman (forgot name) he knew a good deal about the S2000 as you'd hope and expect. I described it my dream car (not including silly money car!) and we had quite along chat on the phone. I liked the sound of it so put a £200 deposit down on it. Was told it was fully refundable. had to sort out a day to drive down to take a look and test drive. A 300 mile round journey, I was serious.
Many of you may have seen the car for sale. 2003 silverstone/red-black only 12k on the clock. great low mileage for age, wow! was bit more that I wanted to pay when I have to think of insurance, maintenance etc as well, but at the mileage and..........described as concours!!!. I thought its probably once in a lifetime and what I really wanted to own.
So the following Sunday we agreed for me to come see it, but salesman was not well nor me so we mutually cancelled. rearranged for the following Thursday, just over a week after the deposit whc had come out my bank sharpish the next day (I can prove this).

I get down there, but crap its raining or well just had, stopping as I got there. Parked next to the car. It was wet obviously, not salesman around so took chance to look around it myself unrushed, pressured or getting questions, a calmer more thorough look at. basically great to look at. Couple stone chips front end and small/tiny dent, fair sized F N/S wheel scuff - fair enough its not new out the factory. I'll attach photos for proof (low quality phone camera on dull day so not great). Then saw rear brake like cluster big crack, n/s wing mirror had 2 pieces broke off that been glued back in.

Now for the best bit on this "consours" car. the N/S door and rear wing, I luckily noticed through the main rain drops was terrible, bobbles in the paint from hear mirror to rear along coach line. became good to bottom of door but was noticeable/feel-able to about half way down door. running my hand gently over the O/S rear wing it was like I could hear it, tried on bonnet, silent. Its like the rear was rough.....re-sprayed?

Went into show room, salesman off again! just the manager there, doing all jobs. I was finally allowed a test drive, which an eastern european who probably just cleans the cars, may be service/repairs, but his English was not great and knew little. About all he said was "good car". he was just there so I didn't nick it!

I felt unsure about the car. They say if you do walk away, its not life and death.....unless you buy one with no brakes! A service paper mentioned about drive shaft noise or something can't recall exactly but saw no paperwork for remedy work, was it still a problem? The manager, stressed with work load that day was pushy, said if i but now he'll swap the rear light of another.

Now the paint work saga. I mentioned it, shock horror he knew nothing about that 9 though said only been there a month. Went out to check and agreed. He later apparently had spoken to the garage owner who said the car probably been sat under a tree and was from tree sap! To me the surface lacquer was unbroken and the blobs were underneath, created during spraying the base colour, though I'm not expert. he said he's have to get re-sprayed for me. wanted me to buy there and then but I said I want to go home and sleep on it , have a think, see how I feel about the car and deal the next day
............to be continued

continued.......

I decided not to go with it. Just felt uneasy. May have been a fine car but for the money £2000 more than I was really wanting to pay as mentioned earlier I thought lets look elsewhere.
So Monday I rang up the original salesman, explained about paintwork etc but decided not to go with it. refund not a problem!
over a week later rang again and said oh sorry, accounts must not have done it. he'll get it sorted and ring back that day to confirm. No phone call! Another week passed watching my bank account for the money to return. my mother at this point was not happy and wanted to ring up, she's a sharp tongued kind, no messing. Was again told sorry will get it sorted (she may have been promised a phone call too). Another week or so pass. We are at Christmas now. He had said may be delayed because of xmas, hence willing to wait a bit, but still concerned. Into the new year no money so was going to get tough. Contact to trading standards was on the cards, but first emailed them via their website stating will contact trading standards. Also drafted a letter to post them. the next day or 2 I got a phone call from the manager I had met. he was sorry and said he knew nothing of the deposit/repayment issue. Although he though my email was a bit strong. Hey, I want my money back! he was apologetic and friendly still and in that phone call took my card number for the refund and said definitely done, he has the little print out receipt there. He said he'll have words with the salesman (might be a Steve?). Whether he did, who knows.
Fact, money did go back in and just checked to be ultra accurate and it was 9th Jan 2012. I rang to decline buying on 12th Dec 2011. 2 extra phone calls and an email. You decide if thats quick, honest, reliable service for you.

Photos to follow in next message. sorry for any bad grammar and spelling errors. it was more a précis.

after reading what others have put, I'm not saying they are crooks or clockers. I have no idea. but my experience did make me feel they were hoping I gave up on the deposit, free money for them! somewhat pressurised, rush when down there to buy. I don't like that and it doesn't make me jump through the hoop quicker but recoil and put a wall up for becoming more uncertain. I like to make a decision when it comes naturally and free flowing. I don't like any salesperson coming up asking if I'm ok and they help etc when I'm browsing, I'm in my own world and it just disrupts that.

its said here they sold/sell dodgy cars, again I don't that. even with dodgy cars sales they sell decent cars to. I'd be surprised a cars sales just specialised in dodgy cars! as I imagine the'y go out of business with so many complaints and bad word of mouth. Unless it was some backstreet underground one man band seller, not a open to the public forecourt. yeah I bet many sales places had bad cars through, knowingly or unknowingly. I'm sure s2000-4u have sold many good cars. Most secondhand cars have some history or little gripe from bumps to wear and tear and not perfect unless you are lucky and find one blemish free. Sales will always verbally polish over the minor things to get a sale! car is in great condition for its age or just great condition, looks stunning, rather than taking you around the car for a tour of the 50 stone chips, scratches and dents they have found. They are a business, its to be expected.

But passing dodgy cars off as nothing wrong, no history etc is down right wrong and dirty.

This S2000 I went to see may have had more history than I was told. I don't know maybe someone here does. I didn't feel 100% right so walked away.

I'm sure they sell many excelent cars......by accident! If a car comes in good it will probably go out good, with no help from them whatsoever. If it comes in cr*p it seems thats possibly how it goes out.

Hello Everybody,

This looks like a great resource, I'm now the proud owner of an 09 S2000.

Luckily I was put off S2000 4U by their rude and unpleasant attitude, and spent my hard earned cash elsewhere.

They did however waste my time so I reviewed them here:

Looks like a good review site.

Searching 2000-4U on google doesn't bring this thread up but I'm sure outsiders would be interested.

For a bit of fun I put some review center reviews in front of someone used to evaluating validity of evidence for the police. I came as no suprise that he was 90% certain that most of the positive reviews were written by the same person and that whoever it was probably had a sales background. One particular review named thee people who were found to be helpful, the expert then asked me to name three people who worked at my local Honda dealer, I named one person the service manager, "See most people can name one, few can name two, and it ir rare to name three without having day to day contact with them", he said with a grin. Obviously sales people do weird things when there are no customers to bother.

But it seems to be a site that won't remove negative reviews just because their customer asks them.

Yep there should be some way you have to validate your comments, via post or some other means.
