Buying an S2000

Fundementaly the cars are the same, so if you buy an earlier model and sort out the alignment they should drive similarly.
The 17" wheels and tyres do make quite a big improvement, IMHO, so that's half the benefit of the newer models. But of course you can do what lots of us have done and put the newer wheels on an older car.
I've never driven one, but my understanding was the 04 was changed to be less sensitive, so that the less precise and smooth driver would have an easier time. Which is probably a good thing, but it doesn't seem to stop the idiots crashing them anyway.

What I can't find in FAQ is any reference to upgrades to the engine applied to MY04+ I understand there were a number, e.g. to valve train, and others which effectively reduced oil consumption.

Also, the later cars have upgraded valve spring retainers (not prone to stress fractures after an "over-rev" - resulting in a "latent fault" potentially causing "engine write-off" at some later date).

From reading hundreds of threads on here,
the only reason to buy older standard cars is the price.
I just wish people would stop BSing about it.
If you have never driven either then you wont tell the difference on a test drive.
As for 'more hardcore'?
Yeah, right.

Something i noticed whilst test driving it, when i was in slow traffic and changed from 1st to 2nd i could feel a very small clunk coming from the back as it went into gear is this is a 'feature' or something a bit more worrying?
having done a search on the forum it seems quite common for a small clunk to occur but its worrying me a bit.
