Default Burning oil

Hey all!

I've had my s2k for a few weeks now and it's just started burning quite a bit of oil it seems when I'm sat in traffic. I got my friend to follow me and there was no oil smoke on hard acceleration or overrun.
Does anyone know of any breather issues? Also I'm going to change the oil and filter tomorrow, what grade oil do people suggest?

Thanks in advance, Edd

Yeah, what he said.
Earlier ones to burn quite a fair bit. Mind went through 600 -1l of oil in 1000 miles. It can also be quite in-linear (is that even a word?!) too.
No burn on the overrun or hard acceleration is good though.

What year is your car?

Thanks for your replies, it's a 1999. I understand what you guys are saying but it really stinks of burning oil to the point it's giving me a headache lol

In which case, it's most likely got an oil leak.

There'd be smoke from the tailpipes if it were worn bores.

Yep, have a look. If you pop the bonnet when she's running you might see smoke

Mines an MY00 with nearly 90K on the clock and hardly uses a drop of oil (still full after 2,000 miles use). There seems to be this myth about them using oil. More likely down to most being thrashed and neglected at some stage in their lives.

Are you sure is oil what you smell? I am just asking just in case the previous owner removed the catalytic convertor and put a test pipe and you smell fumes.
