Broken Engine - New one Help
Long story short, my s2k suffered a loss in oil pressure (unsure why as yet) and engine is not in a good way, Garage said top and bottom end damage but the cost will be significant to rebuild and probably better off replacing engine.
Question - is it just a S2k engine that will go in, or are there other units tried before?
How much am I looking at for a new/secon hand s2k engine?
Thanks

Contact GarageR (a trader on here) for a new engine, he can fit it as well. He will only source decent engines, and ones unlikely to give you trouble in the future. I would not use anyone else if I were to need a new one.
Rebuilds do not generally go too well on the S either.

What is it about the s2k engine that makes it hard to fix? If it's just a bottom end bearing for example. My Dads 1zz-fe Celica ran low on oil and got a new bottom end bearing for ~£300. It's done 40,000 miles since, seems fine.

Not sure what it is tbh...the one's I've heard about just haven't lasted. Perhaps the components or workmanship weren't up to it, or the damage was too much?
The 1ZZ is a long way from the F20...it seems to be in a separate league altogether.

There is factory oversized Bearings available for the crank on the s2000, some machining and new bearings should be good enough.. Unless cylinder Walls/ pistons are not looking too good

Good question, one I have wondered about myself. With regards to bore wear I think the major problem is the lining that is used on the bores (FRM), I may be wrong but I think that reboring removes this(??) making standard replacement oversize pistons un-useable.
I think from there new liners are needed hence why rebuilds dont happen commonly.
Id love to hear from someone who know more on this subject.
