Suprised the 'crooked mile' is not on here, its a road that runs from Waltham Cross to Nazing in Hertfordshire, every time I go down it there is a different car on a different bend in the hedges. 90% of the corners have the cambers going the wrong way.

The last time one of these surveys came out, the "worst" road was from Dalwhinnie to Laggan in the highlands of scotland - a road I used to drive almost every weekend in summers a year or two ago.

Never once saw an accident on it, and generally minimal traffic. It was widely acknowledged that it was some sort of statistical anomaly.

(lets hope so - its on the route for WBT2 )

I'm surprised the A77 Ayr to Glasgow road isn't on the list. It's an old road with two lanes each way and no central reservation for much its length. The closing speed of traffic in their respective outside lanes means you have to keep your wits about you.

Admittedly it's currently riddled with road works (and 40mph speed limits with scameras) whilst they extend the M77 south, but I thought it would have been mentioned in the survey all the same.

The A84 at Lochearnhead (that was included on the list) had a frightening incidence of head ons ... the highest of any of the roads mentioned, IIRC

I guess people get frustrated on that road and attempt inappropriate overtakes - I know it drives me demented if I use it to head north. Even if I head up at 7 am, I still end up getting stuck behind someone who I can't get past for up to 15 miles at a time

One normally gets stuck behind a queue and there is very little opportunity to overtake.

I'd nominate the B507 as a more biker-ish road. But that's in quite good road condition, which eliminates accidents more than other factors.

I used to live on this one

6. A62 Oldham to Huddersfield

Well in a house set back from the road, not actually on the road.

Surprisingly there has been more accidents on it since they pot lots of traffic islands on the parts where overtaking used to be possible !!
