Bridgestone / Honda Tyre Anomaly
Hi All
After some help and perhaps some back up on a tyre issue with Honda.
Heres the background.
When I bought my year 2000 S2000 it had Bridgestone Potenza ES02JZ tyres all round as recommended by all.
The car went in for Service with Honda who said it needed new fronts. Which they put on. I did not think much about it (my fault really).
A couple of days ago I noticed that I require new rear tyres now, so looked a bit more closely at tyres and realised that Honda had put Bridgestone S02JZ

Check some of the other tyre threads on here, but I think that the ESO2JZ's (indeed the correct tyre specifically made by Bridgestone for the S2000) have been recently withdrawn.
They have been replaced with a 16" Bridgestone RE050 variant (again S2000 specific, I think). This new replacement is not to be confused with the 17" RE050 tyre that is for MY04 cars onwards.
There have been plenty of scares in the past about the original OEM tyres being discontinued, a lot of them rubbish due to the fact that some dealers continue to be confused between the Porsche and S2000 Potenzas. However, I'm sure that one of the more experienced owners will be along shortly to clear things up ...

RE050A is the new correct tyre.
After 7 years, they DO know the differsnce between 968 & S2000 tyres & if they say they don't, they're FoS.
It's as much fob-off Britain as rip-off Britain.

S2000 S02's are still available for the front size, its just the rear size that you cant get hold of.
Tell your main dealer to put the correct tyre on as a mater of safety and tell them BlackCircles have the correct tyres in stock. Infact if you phone BlackCircles and say you have an S2000 they WONT sell you the 968 filment S02's as they say they are no good for the car, you need the S2000 specific S02's.

I recently took my car into Headley tyres nr Newbury , after confirming they did have the ES02 's in stock , both on the phone and when i got there .
When i got home I noticed the rears were the Porsche fitment, when i phoned them they couldnt be more helpful ,within the hour he phoned me back , explained there is a shortage of RE050's in the UK at the moment , so he ordered me up a full set from Belgium.
4 days later they were fitted, with an apology, a confirmation that they had made a mistake and most important of all , no arguing
Headley Tyres , a little bit more than Bracknell tyres , but no queuing and hanging around.
It was a strange feeling , as it was the first time I had purchased tyres anywhere other than from Lol at Brackenll tyres for over 25 years
I almost felt guilty , but due to a house move it had to happen, sorry Chap
btw , i also had to tell the boss that their green carder had fitted my front o/s to the rear n/s
