Well it's due a service in a couple of thousand miles, probably wise just to get them to do that today on reflection....good advice I think. Thanks.
As you say, for the sake of doing the oil & filter change early I'd get that done ASAP on the off chance there is debris down there doing more damage, peace of mind and all that.

Well I've had a good old chat with the guys at the garage, and driven the car now. All is very smooth and quiet I got them to do the service as well while it was there as a precaution as it wasn't far off due anyway. Fingers crossed that's the end of it.

Thanks everyone for the advice, even if it was scary!

Now all I have to worry about is getting my new speakers and stereo that I bought last week in properly...

Quick update, couple of weeks on and over a thousand miles later all is still well and the car drives as well as it ever did.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.
